Louisville Kentucky Hurstbourne

We have 2 interesting pieces of information about Hurstbourne today.  Both stories came from reading the Louisville Kentucky newspaper The Courier-Journal.

The first intersting piece of news:  Hurstbourne is celebrating its 25th anniversary as a city this year.  The city became official when there was discussion of absorbing the area of Hurstbourne into Louisville.  At the time, the tax rate for Louisville Kentucky was 59 cents per $100 of assessed value.  The residents of this area did their own study and found that their projected costs were in the order of less than 20 cents per $100 of assessed value.  And thus, Hurstbourne became a 4th class city.  Hurstbourne currently has an annual budget of $1.7 million and approximately half of that gets spent on its 13 entrances and 8 miles of medians with irrigation.

The 2nd interesting bit of news regarding Hurstbourne is:  One of the oldest homes in the area just went on the market.  Its a 3 acre property restricted from development by conservation easements that was originally the sister house to the now Hurstbourne County Club mansion.  The current owner Sarah McNeal Few has allegedly lived there for 70 years.  She and her husband have according to their own statements, “become unable to care for the house”, and thus are selling it so they can move into a townhouse in the Hurstbourne area that would be less maintenance.  There is an older stone building that lays on the 3 acre estate that will accompany the sale of the home.  The current asking price:  $1.95 million.
